Babar Azam becomes Second batsman in the World with 10 T20 Hundreds

During the Lanka Premier League (LPL) match on Monday, Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan’s cricket team, achieved a remarkable feat by scoring his tenth century in the T20 format.

This accomplishment elevated him to the position of the second player in history to achieve this milestone, surpassing the renowned West Indian cricketer, Chris Gayle. The title of achieving the highest individual score (175* against Pune Warriors in IPL 2013) belongs to Chris Gayle, renowned as the “Universe Boss.”

He holds the unique achievement of achieving the most centuries in a single season, having scored 22 centuries in 463 matches. The Pakistan captain has secured three international T20 centuries, including two each in the Vitality Blast and the National T20 Cup, while playing for Somerset and Central Punjab, respectively. Furthermore, in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), he accumulated 100 runs while playing for Peshawar Zalmi. He also contributed an additional run in a tour match against Leicestershire.

With his first triple-digit score in the LPL, Babar increased his tally of T20 centuries to 10 and earned the distinction of being the fourth centurion in the tournament’s history. The 28-year-old cricket superstar is currently the only Asian player with 10 T20 centuries, among his other achievements. Virat Kohli, a former captain of India, is the second Asian with the most T20 centuries after Babar, boasting eight centuries. Against the Gale Gladiators, the talented batter scored a magnificent hundred runs for the Colombo Strikers, achieving a striking 176.2 run rate.

Spectacular cover drives, eight boundaries, and five maximums served as the backdrop for his time spent on the crease. Babar, who opened the innings, formed a reliable 111-run partnership with Pathum Nissanka, enabling the Strikers to defeat the Gladiators by seven wickets. Participating in the LPL for the first time, Babar is seizing the opportunity to refine his skills ahead of significant competitions such as the Asia Cup and the ICC World Cup. He had previously mentioned that this competition would help him adapt to the diverse conditions in Asia.
