Arrest warrants issued for Saba Qamar, Bilal Saeed in video shoot case

LAHORE – Arrest warrants against singer Bilal Saeed and actor Saba Qamar have been issued by a Lahore district court as the duo failed to appear before a judge in a case pertaining to the music video shoot in Lahore’s Wazir Khan mosque.

Reports in local media quoting sources said Judicial Magistrate Jowaria Munir Bhatti earlier today (Wednesday) issued bailable arrest warrants for the two in a case of the alleged desecration of Wazir Khan mosque.

The judge issued the warrants while setting the bail at Rs30,000 each and the next case hearing is set for the first week of next month.

Last year, a case was registered at the Akbari police station in the provincial capital on the complaint of advocate Farhat Manzoor after the release of the music video Qabool Hai.

The report lodged under Section 295 stated that the act of filming a music video at the mosque has hurt the religious sentiments of the public, so it appealed for stern action against the administration of the mosque as well.

Later, the court had issued pre-arrest bail in the case till August 25 against Rs50,000 surety bonds collectively.

Saba Qamar and Bilal Saeed also triggered a public outcry with the music video. Later, the two had also apologized for the incident and issued explanations that shed further light on the video shoot’s context.

Meanwhile, the counsel stated that the case was baseless and contrary to the facts as it stated that no dance or vulgar act was performed in the mosque as alleged in the FIR and the two were innocent and falsely implicated in the case.
