LAHORE: A fake post is doing the rounds on social media, claiming that Lahore’s famous eatery Butt Karahi has been sealed by the food authority for serving dead animals’ meat however the restaurant was sealed for flouting Covid rules.
It all started with a post shared by a social media user, who goes by the name of Uzair Younus, who referred to the incident with the sale of donkey meat which was earlier seized in parts of the Punjab capital.
Lahore walon, talaashi do! Folks need to refresh their Lahore donkey meat memes, he captioned the post which includes a picture of Butt Karahi on the left side while two cops along with the restaurant’s manager can be seen posing on the left side. The post also mentioned a headline of a web portal that claimed that the restaurant was sealed for selling meat of dead animals – the portal later changed the headline.

As the post went viral and many of the other netizens and troll pages jumped into the bandwagon, Lahore’s Deputy Commissioner, Umer Sher Chattha, debunked the news clarifying that the eatery was sealed for violating Covid-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
“Clarification AC city sealed it due to Covid SOP violation, not because of serving dead animal”, the tweet reads.

Meanwhile, according to a local daily, the restaurant was sealed for serving people in the indoor hall as according to the covid resurgence in country’s cultural capital, all eateries have been advised to serve outdoor.
This is the second time in less than nine months that the restaurant has been sealed. Previously, the authorities had sealed the restaurant for serving Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Vice-President, Maryam Nawaz, and other leaders who was served despite a ban on dine-in services. A case was also lodged with the Gawalmandi Police Station for violating the Covid induced SOPs.
