Pakistan soon to be home to China’s third largest automobile manufacturer

Nio plans to debut its volume brand in 20 countries within the next two years. This includes Pakistan, as shared on their website’s map.

NIO, a leading Chinese electronic vehicle (EV) manufacturer is expected to release at least three models in 2022.

One of the versions, interestingly, will be the cheapest of all Nio-branded models. The pricing is part of NIO’s strategy to compete with Tesla by offering a superior product and service at a lower cost. NIO is currently up against luxury brands like as Audi, BMW, and Mercedes.

“We want to provide a better product and service at a lower cost than Tesla Inc,” said William Li, Nio’s founder and CEO. He said further , however, that the corporation will not make little electric automobiles like the Wuling Hongguang models.

The Chinese EV behemoth did not provide any exact information on the debut date. According to Nio’s website, the company plans to debut its volume brand in 20 countries within the next two years. As indicated on the image below, this also includes Pakistan.

It’s worth noting that Nio is one of China’s most popular premium electric vehicle brands. In the second quarter of this year, it delivered 21,896 vehicles, an increase of 111.9 percent over the previous quarter. Furthermore, the prospect of a lower-cost premium EV being introduced in Pakistan is a welcome one, as the country is rapidly transitioning to electric vehicles in order to reduce pollution.

The Federal Government proposes eliminating taxes on imported EVs, a 1% tax on EV parts for local production, and a 1% sales tax for locally built EVs up to 50kwh (sedans) and light commercial vehicles in its proposed Automobile Policy 2021-2026.

The administration also proposes no Federal Excise Levy on electric vehicles, a 1% duty on imported EV charging equipment, and duty-free importing of machinery for EV manufacture in the United States. The government wants to transition to 30 percent electric cars and trucks by 2030, and 90 percent by 2040, as part of its EV drive.
