The Govt did NOT increase any electricity tariff. Channel 24 has been served with a show cause notice after the fake news of government increasing electricity charges was aired. The channel has also been directed to air an apology along with showing cause.
PEMRA has issued show cause notice to Lahore based channel named 24 news HD for broadcasting fake news. According to the notice Channel 24 had aired the fake news without verification or editorial check.
The regulatory body has issued notice under the violation of Section 20 (f) of PEMRA Ordinance, 2002. In addition, PEMRA directed the news channel to air apology as well as correction and showing cause with in 7 days of issuance of notice.
The channel has already received several show cause notices and fines by the regulatory body.
