Court issues arrest warrants for victim couple in Usman Mirza case

A district and sessions court issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against the victim couple in the Islamabad harassment case on Tuesday after they failed to appear for a hearing.

Judge Mohammad Ata Rabbani presided over the case and expressed his unhappiness with the couple’s absence. As a consequence, he ordered a non-bailable warrant for the victims, directing that they be brought before the court by the senior superintendent of police (SSP).Meanwhile, the couple’s lawyer appealed with the court, claiming that both the man and the lady live outside of the city and that getting to court would take three hours.

In July of last year, a video depicting the primary accused in the case, Usman Mirza, physically thrashing and tormenting a young couple in a room full of other males leaked on social media.

Just hours after the video went viral, the Islamabad police arrested Mirza and filed a first information report (FIR) in the case. Seven persons, including Usman Mirza, were charged in the Islamabad couple harassment case.

The female victim of the couple harassment case in Islamabad has withdrawn her statement and issued an affidavit refusing any further inquiry.

The female victim in the case previously testified in front of the magistrate, claiming that Usman and the other accused “threatened to gang-rape her if she did not have sex with her friend.”
